Centre 33 Young People's Cambridge Support Hub

The project will create a new welcoming, accessible public entrance and reception area as part of a wider refurbishment project to open a fit-for-purpose, young people’s support hub in Cambridge. in September 2024 Centre 33 purchased a 293m² building at 4a Newmarket Road, where multiple community partners will co-locate, offering joined-up support under one roof. Support will be targeted at young people, but the building will be used by and open for members of the public of all ages. The new hub will be a vital community amenity, open to the public for walk ins, with no referral or eligibility criteria to access support.
All Centre 33 services are free and multiple other non-profit organisations will also be delivering community services in the hub that are free to the public. As well as young people, the building will welcome family members, wider community groups and professionals, to deliver family sessions and events, carer social events, wellbeing cafes, activities involving multiple generations and professionals’ training. To date, four charities (Cambridge & District Citizens Advice, Ormiston Families, The Kite Trust, Cambridge Curiosity & Imagination) and the consortium Fullscope intend to regularly use space, with others also in the process of joining the project. This strengthened collaborative approach will mean young people and their families will benefit from wraparound support and a “one front door” experience, receiving joined-up support for interconnected issues, improving engagement and preventing crises. Extra services will include bereavement and specialist employment/financial support. These organisations will deliver 1:1 and group work, outreach sessions and training, making the space a multi-agency community hub supporting young people as well as their families and networks. Young people will be able to walk in or contact the hub directly to access support, information or simply find a welcoming space in the centre of the city. The hub will provide a calm, non-clinical environment that helps people feel safe and valued.

The space has been co-designed by young people and accessibility experts, removing barriers for those with disabilities and neurodivergence. The design incorporates planting and greenery through the new winter garden and courtyard features, improving visual appeal and local biodiversity on a small but meaningful scale. Encouraging active travel to the hub, with secure cycle spaces and excellent public transport links, will reduce car journeys and support a more sustainable local environment.
