Chadderton Community Access Improvements

Chadderton community is divided from its local supermarket by the Rochdale Canal. Access to the supermarket, other communities and estates is via the towpath and a vandalised bridge. Oldham Borough Council is rebuilding the bridge but the towpath floods all year due to subsidence so local people have created a muddy shortcut to go shopping. Brambles have taken over where fences have been broken and graffiti covers walls.
We want to work with the local resident’s group to rectify these problems enabling people to use this access path rather than walk along a dual carriageway to do their shopping.
