Chafford Gorge Bat Grilles

To place a metal grille over the front of a disused tunnel which is used by bats. The grille will prevent vandals from entering the tunnel and disturbing the bats. The tunnel goes under Hogg Lane in Grays, linking two disused chalk quarries – one of which is now an open wildlife site. The tunnel has standing water at the bottom which apparently creates an ideal habitat for bats, as the tunnel remains cool throughout the year.
