This old quarry is nationally important due to its mosaic of fossil-rich cliffs, limey fenland, ponds, streams, chalk grassland, scrub and woodland. It is home to a huge variety of flora and fauna. To maintain the diversity of flowers in the grassland, the control of the rabbit population necessary. Visitors come from all over the country to enjoy this site, which includes white sweet violet, salad burnett, dark mullein and knapweeds.
