Projects / Changing Places Toilet at Parsley Hay

Changing Places Toilet at Parsley Hay

The project will install a Changing Places Toilet facility at Parsley Hay Cycle Hire, helping to develop the area as an accessible hub for disabled visitors to the High Peak and Tissington Trails in the Peak District.

Changing Places Toilets are larger accessible toilets for severely disabled people, with equipment such as hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches and space for carers. They are essential facilities, enabling disabled people and their carers to visit an area knowing they will have safe and dignified access to a toilet and associated facilities.

The provision of a Changing Place at this location will be transformational for disabled individuals along with their friends, families and carers. It will open up opportunities for individuals to come out to the Peak District and enjoy the High Peak and Tissington Trails, popular multi-user paths which are used by over 100,0000 annually and provide access through some of the Peak District’s most spectacular limestone dales. Parsley Hay has level access to the Tissington Trail and is the starting point for a Miles without Stiles accessible route suitable for those in wheelchairs. There are sadly very few fully accessible toilet facilities of this kind in the Park. This new facility will therefore open up the wider Peak District and all the benefits of time spent in nature to those with disabilities.

The Changing Place will be a freestanding wooden clad building, sympathetic to the landscape and building on the heritage features at the site.
