Chapel Bank Restoration and Grazing project

This phased project will restore and maintain valuable national priority chalk downland habitat in London, and establish a sustainable management regime on this important site in the North Downs Natural Area. Initially, robust stock fencing will be installed incorporating the chalk grassland areas in order to facilitate management through conservation grazing on site, thus enhancing 1.06ha of chalk grassland. There will be extensive invasive scrub removal within the two paddocks which will serve to increase the area of chalk grassland by 1.2ha but leaving 5-10% of each paddock as scrub in-line with Natural England best practice/condition assessment criteria. New information boards and outreach materials such as leaflets will reflect the on-site changes to access and management.
