Chapeltown Carnival Mural Garden, Leeds - Community Garden Creation (008532)

Growing Together: The Chapeltown Carnival Mural Garden Project’ will transform a neglected 210m² council-owned plot at 35 Savile Mount, Chapeltown, Leeds into a small but high-quality public garden that complements the existing “Reflections of Carnival” mural. Working across 4 organisations (LWIC, Leeds City Council, Chapeltown Arts/The Ginnel Project and East Street Arts), there will be the physical regeneration of the site with a bespoke, culturally designed Adinkra bench and soft landscaping - creating a safe, attractive and accessible public space. The garden will provide a welcoming place for residents and visitors to sit, reflect and enjoy the mural and city views, while helping to deter fly-tipping and improve the local environment. These physical and environmental infrastructure developments will create the right conditions for further engagement activities that will animate the space, promote and encourage wider community use and improve biodiversity in an inner-city area.
