Chartham Weir Fish Pass

The Crump Weir at Chartham is an obstacle to fish passage.A Low Cost Baffle pass is being proposed. These baffles redirect the water flowing down the fish pass channel, dissipating power and reducing the average water velocity. There will also be an eel pass installed on the true right hand side of the weir. Fish species in this stretch of river – Brown Trout, Bullhead, Dace, Eel, Gudgeon, Pike, Stone loach, Minnow, perch, Roach based on the 1994 National Rivers Authority report and also on Environment Agency Fish Survey Reports from 2015. As well as brown trout, the river also supports a significant run of sea trout which are known to run upstream as far as the Chilham area. (The Wild Trout Trust, 2010) This fish pass will increase the biodiversity of the river by improving fish passage.
