Church Hall Refurbishment

St Matthew's Church (SMC) in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex own and manage the church hall. Constructed in 1885 the building has a large hall, three smaller meeting rooms and a church office. The hall was last renovated in 1990. Regular weekly groups include guides, toddlers, youth and senior's session, dance and language sessions. A weekly coffee morning is held on site and the building is popular for ad-hoc bookings. However, the spaces are not currently configured to allow more than one group usage at any one time, and the current south entrance that gives direct access to the hall is not in use. Additionally, the hall is cold and draughty and the existing wooden floor is splintered causing health and safety issues. The toilet at the south entrance is unused as it is cold and damp. This project will allow SMC to reinstate the access to the south entrance to include new doors, windows, lighting and flooring, to sand and revarnish the hall floor, and refurbish the south entrance toilets to include new furniture, hand dryer, radiators and flooring. The improvements will make the space more comfortable for users and allow the wider building to be used by more than one group simultaneously.
