Church Re-roofing, St Mary and Corpus Christi Church, part of the Seven Towers Benefice, Down Hatherley, Glos

This project is to replace roof coverings of the vestry, organ chamber and chancel roofs at St Mary and Corpus Christi Church.

These original roofs are made up of Cotswold stone tiles which are crumbling away. This work was identified as a priority by during the church’s Quinquennial inspection in 2022. This project is also being used as a community building exercise within the village of Down Hatherley and the community beyond, which has expanded from 165 households to over 1,000 through new housing developments.

The church is using the re-roofing project as a catalyst to build greater links with the community which is rapidly expanding through new housing developments. At a recent public meeting, it was asked “What does the church mean to you and what are your hopes for its future?” Alongside its beauty and history, the strong message was for its role as a centre for the community.
