City Celebrations

To complete the final phase on the restoration of St Michael’s Bell Tower which dates back to 1465. This is a flag ship building in Gloucester City Centre.

To re-instate the medieval curfew bell that used to tell people when to light and put out their fires; told people when the local market was open and latterly in WW2 rang out warnings; to reinstate the City Flag Pole on top of the building. Install a new interpretation board on the history of the site for local people and visitors to the city. To make the building fully operational as it was up until 1940 – ringing out the bell for city celebrations and to keep the flag flying for local carnivals ,community events, heritage days and all other city functions. Also to celebrate 40 years of Gloucester Civic Trust. These final stage improvements will add to the heritage interpretation of the building and will provide fun and tangible heritage learning for schools and other youth groups on their educational visits.
