Clitheroe Castle Outdoor Performance Space

The proposed improvements will create a space where all residents can go and meet, look at the views, play, have picnics and get involved with the sensory features, whether the castle or museum are open or not. Local schools and Sure Start Nurseries will also benefit from using the space and it’s environmental and sensory resources for curriculum support activities.
A series of stainless steel ‘science park’ sight, sound and vibration equipment to complement the sensory planting will be available for all to use. There will be informal seating to rest on, picnic by, play around, watch plays and join in with medieval demonstrations. A grass mound will provide a soft raised position to sit on, roll and picnic on. Raised planters with medicinal and culinery herbs will surround one corner of the site which will be paved in recycled stone from the site or muted colours of bound gravel with a timeline running of metal plaques through.
