Clive Village Hall, Shrewsbury – Roofing and Insulation (7166)

The slate roof was constructed in 1899 with no insulation. The roof and battens, slates and leadwork have deteriorated significantly. It is leaking in a number of places. There is no insulation either in the ridge or side slopes of the roof. There are also large original metal vents in the roof which are letting out the warm air. The project is to totally strip and re-roof the building (repairing any rafters as needed) with breathable membrane, new battens, new leadwork, new gutters and re-slating using as many of the originals as possible. Old metal air vents will be removed and insulation added.
The original roof has lasted for 120 years, but without re-roofing and insulating the roof the future of the Village Hall will be in doubt.
