Cockshotts Farm Lodge Pond Restoration

This project will restore c.1.6ha of open water on a lodge pond which has become silted up and overgrown with vegetation to improve habitat for breeding, passage and wintering wild birds. We will use an excavator to remove excess silt and vegetation and create small meanders in the channel that feeds the pond to reduce future silt build up. Bird species that will benefit include breeding moorhen, mallard, common snipe; feeding kingfisher, little egret, dipper, hobby, swallow; passage wheatear, little ringed plover, sandpiper spp.; and wintering teal, common snipe, and jack snipe. Bats and invertebrates including damselflies and dragonflies will also benefit.
