Coed y Bedw Biodiversity Project

Coed y Bedw is ancient broadleaved woodland, which is located across the boundary between acidic and calcareous soils, making it extremely rich in flora and fauna species, many of which receive national and international protection. The reserve is situated on the outskirts of Cardiff, South Wales and is bordered by the community of Pentyrch.

The project aims to undertake species specific management for pied flycatcher, dormouse, amphibians and bat species, which will in turn benefit the habitats of the reserve and all other species using it. Such management will include the erection and monitoring of nest boxes and bat roosts, woodland management and pond creation for amphibians using the woodland.

The project will also engage with academic institutes so that opportunities to undertake scientific research on the reserve can be made more readily available to students and volunteers, improving our understanding of species and habitats on the reserve.
