Coffin Works Learning and Interpretation Project

The Coffin Fitting Works is a Grade II* factory, complete with most of its contents in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, which is about to be the subject of a major programme of repairs funded by HLF and others. In order to make the factory as engaging and interesting as possible
1. Three short films using filmed reminiscences and new material to tell the stories of the factory to visitors
2. 6 apps for use with ipads
3. Create a range of learning materials, such as the Travelling Salesman’s bag, Shroud sample books and paper records for use at the Coffin Fitting Works
4. Refurbished original in-situ equipment for demonstration purposes
The films will be shown in the Stamp room, one of the principal heritage rooms that will be publically accessible. The apps will be accessed via the ipads. These will be for use only at the factory but can be carried around the historic interiors and offer an exciting alternative to labeling.
