Cold Springs Community Nature Reserve

The aim of this project is to create a new green space for the enjoyment and accessibility of Penrith residents. The site will be known as Cold Springs Community Nature Reserve.

In Feb 2022 15 ha of farmland was gifted to Cumbria Wildlife Trust and since then it has been transformed from grass fields to an emerging mosaic of habitats. Trees have been planted in wide swathes and wild flowers, grown at our Gosling Sike Plant Nursery, now cover much of the site.

With the support of Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust we would like to create the first public access to this site:
• Install an easy access footpath that links to wider local walks
• Waymarking and fingerposts to guide people round the site
• Create new access points with easy access gates
• Install creative feature seating to encourage relaxation and quite enjoyment of the space.
• Create a view point and interpret the huge vista across the Lake District fells visible from the elevated section of the site.
