Projects / Colne Streams

Colne Streams

Colne Streams is a project that will enhance the biodiversity value of the River Colne catchment by delivering targeted improvement projects for species and habitats that have been identified as nationally, regionally or locally important. There are four focusses of the Colne Streams project: 1. River bank development and protection; 2. In chanel restoration (removal of redundant weirs to create migratory fish passes and creating up stream seed banks of native rare or indicative river species); 3. Clough management (prepare management plans for 3 key cloughs of UK priority habitats – upland oak and delivery of identified objectives; and 4. Protected species conservation (extension and linkage of the fragmented wetland network which is home to the last population of water voles in the Colne Valley/ SW Kirklees.
We aim to work closely and develop existing partnerships with volunteers, businesses, land owners and statutory bodies to deliver a programme of practical projects.
