Commonhead Moss Local Nature Reserve Bog Restoration Project

Commonhead Moss is a degraded remnant of raised bog, one of the largest remaining in Glasgow. Much of the Moss was cutover and drained in the past, resulting in the loss of much of the original vegetation. The spread of birch scrub is also affecting the quality of the bog ecosystem.

The aim of the project is to restore the bog habitat and encourage typical bog vegetation (such as sphagnum moss and bog rosemary) through a programme of ditch damming, birch clearance and pond creation.
