Community Hub Plot, Greenfields Allotments Association, Walsall

This is a project to create a community hub plot at Greenfields Allotments in Walsall.

Greenfields Allotments wants to build a community hub plot that everyone in the local area can enjoy. The hub will have a polytunnel for growing plants all year, a shed for shared tools, benches, raised beds, and a seed library where people can swap seeds. A small wildlife corner will attract bees and butterflies. Gardening sessions, coffee mornings, plant sales, harvest festivals, and school visits will be run and new plot holders will get friendly support. The hub will bring people together, reduce loneliness, improve health, and encourage more sustainable living. Any money raised will be put back into the hub.

The hub will give people in the area a safe, friendly space to meet, garden, and learn together. It will bring neighbours of all ages together through gardening, coffee mornings, plant sales, and harvest festivals, helping to build stronger community ties. The hub will support new plot holders with advice and mentoring, while volunteers can share skills across different age groups. Local schools and families will be able to visit for hands-on learning about food growing, composting, and caring for nature. With its gardening activities, promotion of grow your own food and wildlife plants, and accessible raised beds, the hub will promote sustainability, reduce waste, improve biodiversity, and encourage environmentally friendly lifestyles. By supporting wellbeing, tackling loneliness, and giving people a place to enjoy nature, it will make the community healthier and more resilient.

The Association intends to work with a range of local organisations to ensure the Community Hub benefits as many people as possible, partners will include GPs and Social, Dementia Support Groups ,Schools and Youth Groups, Community Centres and Charities, Walsall Council, Local Businesses, Wellbeing Practitioners. These partnerships will provide expertise, help reach hard-to-reach groups, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the project.
