Completing the Restoration of the Old Vic’s Historic Auditorium – Upper Circle

The Old Vic is one of the most famous and best-loved theatres in the World. Built in 1818, it has seen many changes in ownership and reconfigurations over the past two centuries, but has remained consistent in promoting artistic excellence that is accessible to all.

As the current custodians, our aim is to preserve this cultural icon for posterity. To this end, we are working to raise the funds necessary to repair, refurbish and renovate this Grade II* building. Many areas of the Theatre are in grave need of attention. The dressing rooms, auditorium and rehearsal room are just some of the areas that need bringing into the 21st century to safeguard the future of this distinguished theatre.

In order to meet customers’ expectations and provide a fitting experience for visitors we plan to restore the interior of the Old Vic. The Jethro T Robinson auditorium of 1871 is one of only two surviving examples of his work.
