Connect 2 Carlisle cycleway lighting project

To complete the construction of a 700m stretch of the Caldew cycle way, part of the Connect 2 cycle way. The project is comprised of the following elements:
1. The construction of a new stretch of cycleway betwwen Metcalfe Street and Thomas Street in the City’s Denton Holme (the so called missing link) which will provide a continuous alternative transport corridor between the village of Dalston and Castle Way in the heart of Carlisle. This will be constructed along side the Carlisle flood defence to create a safe, traffic free route to the city centre for cyclists and pedestrians. Linking up with the existing Caldew cycle way from Dalston, the new cycle way will enable cyclists to access the city centre without having to cycle on busy roads.

2. The installation of lighting between Metcalfe Street and Castle Way. The provision of lighting along the full length of this stretch of the cycle way is key to it being used by cyclists and pedestrians throughout the year.
