Projects / Conservation grazing at Lower Woods

Conservation grazing at Lower Woods

The projects aims to install infrastructure to allow for conservation grazing by cattle within Lower Woods nature reserve. This will include the purchase of NoFence collars to manage cattle grazing, monitor cattle movement and reduce the need for physical fencing.

The project will improve the signage and interpretation around the woodland to ensure that the public is informed about GWT’s management, the species which live in Lower Woods and how to behave responsibly in the woods.

Cattle grazing in Lower Woods is a step towards reintroducing natural processes which reduces the need for human interventions such as mechanical cutting of vegetation which doesn’t allow for the complexity and variety which we would like to see in the glades and rides in Lower Woods. Through introducing this grazing regime, we hope to see a greater variety of habitats and species within Lower Woods.
