Conservation of Old Christ Church, Waterloo

The Churches Conservation Trust needs to urgently conserve the prominent tower of Old Christ Church. The soft sandstone of Old Christ Church is eroding due to the harsh coastal winds from Liverpool Bay. The historic fabric of the church is at risk if the work does not go ahead and the church will need to close if the masonry deteriorates significantly. The scope of work includes: Full scaffolding of the tower, replacing stones and repointing the tower walls, stabilising and repairing the massive stone louvres to the belfry, repairing masonry to the tower windows tracery, cleaning of some plain leaded glass by specialist conservators, structural work and health and safety work inside the tower, reroofing the small link roof from the tower which gives access to other roofs and provides safe access for future maintenance.
