Conservation work at Tiddesley Wood

Tiddesley Wood near Pershore is an 80 hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust flagship nature reserve. The ancient woodland is home to many species of woodland birds, with wide rides, coppice plots and open glades providing valuable habitat for rare butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. The site is in need of a programme of conservation work which will include:
Resurfacing the woodland track:
Woodland management through coppicing, ride side clearance and glade creation is essential for maintaining and improving this habitat. However, the main track through the site has become worn and potholed and it is becoming increasingly difficult for forestry vehicles to reach important areas.
The installation of deer proof fencing:
Deer on the reserve are becoming an increasing problem for our woodland management programme, as they browse on the new shoots of coppice stools. The project will include the installation of fencing to protect coppice plots.
