Conserving Habitats for Priority Species on Mersehead Nature Reserve

We will carry out habitat restoration at RSPB Mersehead nature reserve, in Dumfries and Galloway. This project primarily focuses on the restoration of wet grassland, which is a UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UKBAP) habitat. We will also carry out work to help safeguard natterjack toads (Epidalea calamita) through habitat creation & development, which are a UKBAP species.

We are seeking funding to and carry out liming application across 30 hectares of grassland to increase the soil biodiversity – creating improved habitats for priority species including lapwing, snipe, curlew and redshank and install and repair six artificial pools for natterjack toad habitats.
