Conserving the Butterflies of Warton Crag

Warton Crag comprises of limestone grassland and pavement, woodland and scrub. Warton Crag is one of the most important areas in the Morecombe Bay limestone area for butterflies including high brown fritillary, pearl bordered fritillary and northern brown argus.

These species all need a mosaic of limestone grassland within scrub and woodland. The project has a core three-year programme of habitat management aiming to; control and reverse scrub encroachment, manage the grasslands through grazing and cutting, maintain the range of these UK BAP listed butterfly species.
