Conserving the ruins of Tupholme Abbey

Tupholme Abbey is a Grade I Listed Building and Scheduled Monument. The surviving standing remains represent the south wall of the medieval abbey’s refectory range with the ruins of later farm buildings attached. The ruins stand in an area of traditional grassland and are surrounded by the earthwork remains of the abbey and the Tudor mansion and gardens that succeeded it. The land is in Higher Level Environmental stewardship. The site is open at all times to the public free of charge. In order to ensure the preservation of the standing remains and thereby maintain continuing safe public access to them it is necessary to carry out conservation works to the refectory wall, the exact scope and detail of which will be determined by commissioning a condition survey, repair strategy and schedule of works. The necessary works will then be implemented accordingly.
