Conserving the Small Blue butterfly on the Guildford Downs

The project will restore chalk grassland on the Downs close to Guildford to secure the future of the increasingly rare Small Blue butterfly in the area. Work will include i) practical conservation management by contractors and volunteers including ground disturbance, scrub management, and Kidney Vetch (the butterfly’s sole foodplant) seeding, ii) monitoring the impact of this work on habitat condition and butterfly populations.iii) management of volunteers undertaking conservation, surveying and monitoring tasks. iv) sharing the findings with partner organisations
