Cornwall Wildlife Trust Otter Conservation and Awareness Project

The aim of this project is to monitor the status of the otter, raise awareness and reduce threats to the otter across Cornwall. The Trust will:-
Engage local communities in otter conservation by holding training days for Cornwall Otter Group (COG) and members of the public. Training will focus on otter recording (spraints, sightings and dead otters ) and monitoring the 200 National Otter sites around Cornwall
Carry out the first otter population assessment in Cornwall, investigating pollution levels within otters and the effectiveness of habitat management, by training key COG volunteers to collect fresh spraint in the Camel Catchment for DNA analysis
Provide advice to fisheries and fishermen about ottter predation and encourage mink surveys at fisheries using floating mink rafts.
Reduce road related otter deaths through liason with planners and developers and assessing key otter road casualty sites and installing mitigration measures where possible
