Cory Environmental Trust Visitor Centre at Mucking

The Cory Environmental Trust is in partnership with the Essex Wildlife Trust (EWT) and wishes to fund a new visitor centre to be built on the Mucking landfill site when it is restored and passed to the EWT to manage as a major new Thameside Nature Park in 2010 when the landfill site will be closed.
The Visitor Centre will have a manager, 2 wardens and an Education Officer. The Centre will have an educational area, environmental displays, wildlife supplies shop, refreshment area and viewing areas overlooking the reserve. Toilet facilities will also be provided.
The new nature reserve, as a public amenity, will provide for a wide range of activities including walking, cycling and horse riding, informal leisure acitivities and nature watching. The site will also play an important role in nature conservation.
The aim is to provide a building which is carbon positive, ie. it will produce more power than required to run the facility and be self sustainable.
