Cotswold Canals Connected – Mechanised Towpath maintenance

Cotswold Canals Trust’s restoration aims to re-connect the canal between The Ocean near Stonehouse and Saul Junction. This application is for the cost of a Telehandler, which will be used to load and haul a large trailer with building materials and deliver excavators to our work sites; as a general-purpose heavy haulage tractor. It will also be a critical piece of equipment for rebuilding and restoring 6 locks, 3 bridges and restoration of the original canal route and construction of approximately a mile of new canal bed and towpath. The equipment will be registered on our LCF asset register and will be secured either in our nearby depot at Eastington, or in a secured compound on site.
Phase 2 of the restoration covers from the Sapperton Tunnel Portal at Coates to the River Thames at Inglesham lock and with an anticipated lifetime of 5-10 years, the Telehandler equipment will then be reused at this site in the future. (Phase 2 address will be, Cotswold Canals Trust, Alex Farm, Latton, Swindon, SL6 6LW).
