Cottingley Junior Play Area, Leeds – New Play Equipment and Biodiversity Improvements (008017)

Cottingley Playground is located next to Cottingley Towers which are two high rise blocks of flats. A densely populated area where many residents don’t have access to any garden space. Therefore, the open greenspace is essential for young families and children to spend time outdoors. Whilst the existing playground was installed in 2018 and comprises three pieces of equipment, it lacks full provision for juniors and toddlers. The project seeks to extend the play area and provide inclusive play equipment with a range of activities. In addition to the playground, is the introduction of timber trim trail equipment and imaginative play items. These will be located within the greenspace to the west, activating the grassed area to the rear of the substation. To further enhance the area, tree and wildflower planting will be introduced along with a large mural developed with local community involvement.
