Court Resurfacing, Woodfield Social and Sports Club Limited, Wolverhampton

This is a project to re-surface four artificial tennis courts at Woodfield Social and Sports Club.

Woodfield is an inclusive club, offering sport and leisure facilities for the community including bowls, table tennis, darts, snooker, pool. The four artificial grass tennis courts, resurfaced 22 years ago with National Lottery and Sport England funding, are now worn out and potentially dangerous for older or less mobile players. Despite members efforts to maintain them, the courts desperately need replacing, having exceeded an expected lifespan of 18 years, and experts have recommended immediate replacement. This transformation would rejuvenate the grounds, creating a welcoming community hub. Resurfacing would ensure safety, sustainability, boost community engagement and attract new members from young aspiring athletes to people with disabilities or mobility challenges making tennis accessible for all.

The club provides a haven for fresh air and exercise, located just off one of the main roads into a busy city. Despite their potential, the tennis courts are underused, and the club is eager to revamp them to attract the city’s diverse communities. Located opposite a primary school, the aim is to create an inviting space that encourages partnerships with local staff and students, introducing children to tennis. At the heart of the mission is a commitment to growing tennis in Wolverhampton, making the sport welcoming, enjoyable, and accessible for all. WSSC Tennis Section has approximately 50 members and is one of only two tennis clubs in the southwest of Wolverhampton. With a population exceeding 262,000, there is immense potential to engage more people from the community.
