Projects / Creation of a Waterfall Garden in Wimbledon Park

Creation of a Waterfall Garden in Wimbledon Park

Within Capability Brown’s Wimbledon Park there was built a dam to create Wimbledon Park Lake. In the 1950’s, a waterfall was created with Westmorland Stone on the back of the dam sourced from overflow from the lake. This waterfall has now fallen into disrepair and no longer functions. The scheme is to restore the waterfall, landscape the surrounding area, create stepped paths either side of the waterfall, a seating area by the feature and introduce an extensive garden into the area. The total cost is circa £49,500. We have a pledge for £15,000 from The Elisabeth Giaugue Trust and £6,000 from the London Borough of Merton and the Wimbledon Park Heritage Group for the supply of plants and to carry out the planting. The maintenance of both the waterfall and garden has been secured by the London Borough of Merton.
