Projects / Creation of Community Garden

Creation of Community Garden

To create a small community garden within the district centre of Chellaston, a suburb of the City of Derby. This would be achieved through demolishing a disused and overgrown public convenience building enabling a 70 square metre area to be transformed into small public garden. This would include flower beds, sandstone block planters, seating, a community information board, disabled provision and some public artwork along with an interpretation board depicting local historical events. The garden would be open to the general public daily and be maintained by voluntary community working parties who manage small public areas as part of the “Chellaston in Bloom” initiative. The area will provide access for wheelchairs and where users can obtain general and historic information of the local area and activities as well as the opportunity to meet with friends, neighbours and colleagues. The garden location is within easy walking distance of shopping outlets.
