Creation of RSPB Lydden Valley Wetland Nature Reserve

The project will create a new 500 hectare wetland nature reserve in the Lydden Valley in East Kent. It will involve the acquisition of arable land and its restoration to a range of habitats, primary UK BAP Priority coastal and floodplain grazing marshes (the lead habitat). In this phase (Phase 2), 95 hectares will be acquired, following an initial 22 hectares purchase (Phase 1) already made. Over 5 years, the project aims to restore the acquired land to ‘Favourable’ status, contributing significantly to Regional and National BAP targets for the lead habitat.
