Cricket Nets For All Project, Wightwick & Finchfield Cricket Club, Wolverhampton

The primary objective of this project is to replace the existing practice net facility, which has become increasingly unsafe and inadequate for the club’s needs. The current nets, which are over 15 years old, have suffered extensive wear and tear, with flooding having damaged the base, resulting in uneven surfaces and unpredictable ball bounce. These conditions pose a significant health and safety risk to users. Additionally, the existing facility limits capacity, preventing the club from meeting the growing demand for cricket practice and training sessions. By redeveloping the area, the project will create an accessible and modern community facility that provides safe and inclusive sporting opportunities for all.

The new cricket nets facility will serve as a community hub, fostering social connections among residents from diverse backgrounds while encouraging greater participation in cricket across youth, women’s, and adult teams. The upgraded facility will include enhanced disability access, ensuring that individuals of all abilities can benefit from the space. Beyond sporting benefits, the project is expected to have a positive economic impact on the local community. By hosting training sessions and small tournaments, the club anticipates attracting visitors who will support local businesses, restaurants, shops, and services, thereby contributing to the economic vitality of the area.
