Dalbeattie Community Allotments – Phase 2

Since May 2010 a huge community effort has seen the creation of new allotments in Dalbeattie guided by Dalbeattie Community Allotments Association (DCAA). In satisfying this public demand DCAA has also helped to address the following ancillary objectives; the promotion of local food production in food miles, provision for healthy exercise, and a suitable environment for the rehabilitation and engagement of more challenged members of the community.

The allotments provide a socialising and learning environment for all ages and, through example, promote the benefits of good gardening practise, home composting, community working, and sharing of resources.

The allotments (Biggar Gardens) lack 3 things; a polytunnel for communal use, the ability to exploit the well found on site as a water supply and a portacabin to provide shelter, warmth and a meeting place. This application seeks funding to address these aspirations.
