Daresbury Firs Working Woodland and Biodiversity Project

As Daresbury Firs is due to be thinned as part of the biodiversity management plan this is an ideal opportunity to engage local people and volunteers in the management of the site. The project will be carried out based around a number of training courses and events for local volunteers and special needs students on supported employment.
The project will consist of the following aspects:
. 30% thinning of the trees through a Working woodland event
. Some of the extracted timber to be milled on site and used for bird boxes, fencing and other site furniture on local community projects.
. Heather and Bilberry restoration on improve the biodiversity of the site
. Bird box construction and erection including Owl boxes
. Replanting clear felled areas with broad leafed trees
. Creating 20 hibernaculum’s to encourage reptiles
. Installation of new access gates
. Excavation of small wetland area
