Darley Avenue Wood, Manchester – Community Green Space (006010)

Darley Avenue Wood is an unused 0.16ha site. There is one access point which is a narrow path enclosed by hedges and fencing, with an unwelcoming electric substation by the entrance. The site is almost entirely covered in dense bramble and there are problems with fly tipping.

This project will make the site more accessible by creating a screen to cover the substation, trimming the hedge back to the boundary fence to make the path bigger and clearing the bramble, then install outdoor furniture that would support outdoor learning activities and community events including seating areas, a fire pit and appropriate signage, way markers and interpretation.

The project will also improve the quality of the habitat by planting shrubs and wildflowers, installing a pond and thinning trees to allow those remaining to reach their full potential.
