Darlington St Cuthbert's Opening Doors Project

A contribution towards the Opening Doors project at St Cuthbert’s Church, Darlington—an ambitious redevelopment of the Grade I listed town-centre church. This capital project will remove physical and social barriers, making the building fully accessible, flexible, and welcoming for all. Works include step-free entrance, underfloor heating, internal toilets, improved lighting, and removal of fixed pews to enable multi-use events. It will create a café and meeting room to support outreach with ex-offenders, refugees, families, and those experiencing isolation or mental health challenges. The renewed space will better serve a diverse congregation—including elderly members, young families, and those new to faith—and enable partnerships with schools, music groups, and charities. This project will transform St Cuthbert’s from a part-time place of worship into a seven-day-a-week hub for community, culture, and compassion; preserving heritage while serving the needs of Darlington today and for the future. Funds will specifically contribute towards flooring including new stone finishes and underfloor heating.
