Developing Lower Smite Farm

Lower Smite Farm (LSF) is home to the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. The site (65ha) provides a range of important wildlife habitats and is frequented by many priority BAP species. The site is also important for rare arable flora and the existing assemblage now makes LSF of National Importance.

In order to further develop and improve the biodiversity value of LSF we are planning a new project to convert the arable fields to organic. Full conversion is a 2 year process and involves an intensive 6 month establishment period where the soil is prepared and grass and wild bird food seed is planted. The project also includes a wetland restoration programme. The project will lead to the creation of a flagship site which will serve to illustrate to the farming community and educational groups how an organic farmland can make a significant contribution to biodiversity.
