Dewsbury Domes

Dewsbury has come to national prominence creating very negative perceptions of the district. The most deprived neighbourhood is Dewsbury Moor Estate (England’s worst 0.6% of areas) which overlooks a vast but much underused green oasis, Lower Spen Valley. Partners are working on a masterplan to ensure the area has a brighter future. A sewage works in the valley is being made redundant and the large circular concrete tanks will be saved form demolition by undertaking a “mini Eden” project. They will be roofed over to create an ironic tourist destination which will serve as a visitor centre for the valley.
