Dinham Millennium Green, Ludlow – Restoration of Dinham/Castle Weir (4914/D/TP)

The weir is an essential component of the Millennium Green that provides an open area for children’s play. Also it provides a river backdrop to the Town Council’s recreation area and a ‘lake’ for their boating and canoeing facility in Linney. A recent study commissioned by the Trust and carried out by a Civil Engineer has confirmed that repairs to the weir are essential. If the work is not carried out the weir will be breached and all the benefits of the site will be lost. Concrete that had been inappropriately added in the 20th Century must be replaced. Trees growing into the structure of the weir and destroying its integrity must be removed and the resulting holes filled. Repairs to the sluice that controls the flow of water are required. The junction between the river bank and the weir must be strengthened.

The Trust grant will contribute towards the repairs to the weir and blockstone toe protection.
