Discovering a Living Landscape

The ecology of the Elan Valley and the Gilfach Nature Reserve immediately to the East
have been studied over a number of years. Their grasslands have been given a high
priority as ‘Elan Valley Grasslands’ within the Wales BAP. We are aware that mobile
species (e.g. Water Vole and the iconic Welsh Clearwing moth) disperse and migrate
between Gilfach and Elan Valley. We are keen to investigate this further and seek to
enhance ecological connectivity within this area by a series of practical measures as well
as raising awareness amongst the general public and local communities.
