Discovering Cromford

This project will take the general public into Sir Richard Arkwright’s First Mill at Cromford, a Grade I Listed building on the at risk register, which forms part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The building, whilst externally in tact, is completely derelict internally and has not been open to public access for over 50 years. The project will see the provision of a safe walkway into the building, a viewing platform and the delivery of a stunning audio visual display to allow the public to gain a greater understanding of the Cromford story. It will also allow the public to see the archaeological remains within the mill for the first time.
