Double Walk Landform at Midpark Hospital, Dumfries

The funding is required to realise a landform called ‘Double Walk’ which has been devised as a gift by Jencks in consultation with the Midpark Hospital Design Team and staff.
It is envisaged that the artwork will be used by staff to encourage patients to begin to exercise again and gain confidence in being outside. It will be a focal point for patients who are well enough to leave the wards during visiting times, especially those with young children who may use the landform for play and letting off steam in what can be difficult times for families. The work will act as a point of contemplation; a quiet and meditative walking/sitting time away from the clinical environment in the hospital. It is also the second point along a waymarked walk in the hospital grounds, again designed to encourage exercise for body and mind.
It is also anticipated that the work will attract the public on to the site again supporting stigma reduction.
