Doxford Park Lake Rejuvenation

Doxford Park is the former garden to Doxford House the home of the Doxford family previously Shipbuilders and Engineers in Sunderland. The garden was handed over to the city council in the 1950’s for use as a public park. Unfortunately the Park was accepted without an endowment leaving the City Council without the means to adequately manage the park.

The central feature is the lake which has fallen into disrepair. It is intended to formulate a project to desilt the lake, repair the bed and peripheral walling and install systems to maintain a good water quality. It is hoped that this initial project will be a catalyst for a further regeneration of the park. It will build upon works carried out by the Friends Group around the walled garden. (129)
