Drumburgh Moss Nature Reserve Grazing Control

Drumburgh Moss Nature Reserve is one of four extensive lowland raised mires on the South Solway Plain, collectively designated as the South Solway Mosses SAC. Together, the South Solway Mosses support the largest area of lowland raised mire habitat left in England without significant loss or damage.

The main aim of this project is to improve the biodiversity of the habitat. This area has suffered from too high grazing pressure that has resulted in the specialised wet woodland, bog and heath vegetation being degraded and becoming less diverse and more grassland in nature. This situation has arisen due to the deterioration of the boundary fences.

We now need to replace fencing and a cattle grid to ensure the grazing regime can be maintained and the wetland habitats restored.
